Getting Your CEO Started on Social Media: Twitter
Welcome to the second installment of our “Getting Your CEO Started on Social Media” series! Visit our first post, “Getting Your CEO Started on Social Media: LinkedIn,” if you missed it!
Today, we’re discussing why (and how!) to launch your CEO’s Twitter presence. Here’s why your CEO should be tweeting:
- Gives a face to your company and exposes key audiences to all that you do to benefit your community and industry
- Positions your CEO as a thought leader in your company’s space
- Educates employees on how their CEO and company are contributing
- Gives your CEO a public, real-time platform that enables them to communicate directly with key stakeholders
Getting started is the easy part. Your CEO will need –
- A username – or as those in the Twittersphere refer to it – a handle. Keep it simple so people can easily find them and remember it.
- Headshot
- Cover photo – get creative with this! Consider using a shot of your CEO working with employees or giving back to the community.
Once their profile is up-and-running, your CEO will join the more than 320 million Twitter users across the globe!
What comes next is the challenging part! A ‘if we build it, they will come’ mentality never applies to Twitter. Your first focus should be developing a consistent, steady stream of engaging content. Great tweets will:
- Engage key audiences – make them less about your company or CEO and more about the audience
- Provide specific information that is helpful to followers
- Give a voice and personality to your CEO – they shouldn’t sound like a mouthpiece for your company
Largemouth launches, maintains and grows the presence of CEOs on Twitter every day. If you want your CEO to be a Twitter #rockstar, give us a call.
