1.  What is your favorite part about public relations?

I really enjoy the storytelling element of PR. Every client we work with has unique goals for their communications program based on where they’ve been and where they want to go. It’s rewarding for me to help these organizations find their voice and share their story in an impactful way that supports their mission.

I also love the variety of work involved in PR. One day, I might spend time planning for a social media campaign and then pitch TV producers on story ideas surrounding a new client initiative. The next day I might get a call about an unforeseen issue that came up with a client and help plan a crisis communications strategy. It’s never dull and no day is ever the same!

2.  What advice do you have for upcoming PR pros?

Work hard, maintain a positive attitude and keep a notepad handy. Building skills and experience takes time, but good work habits can help you get started on the right foot and build a foundation that will serve you well throughout your career.

Don’t discount the notepad suggestion, either. Whether you prefer to write it down or to type it on your laptop, taking notes and creating to-do lists are going to help you stay organized and keep track of deadlines in an often fast-paced work environment.

3.  What song do you listen to pump yourself up?

This might be a little random, but the song “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi has become a mainstay on my running playlists recently. It sums up my life with a four-month-old baby at home.
