Learning the Ropes of PR in Real Time

Learning the Ropes of PR in Real Time

I never knew what I wanted to study in college until I took a newswriting course the summer after my freshman year. That’s when I discovered my passion for communications, and I never looked back. As Friedrich Nietzsche said, “all I need is a sheet of paper and something to write with, and then I can turn the world upside down.” I believe in the power of words to make a change, and I want to use this power to help companies tell their stories. I am motivated to transform ideas into messages and share these messages with the world.

One exciting part of my internship so far has been looking at Largemouth’s clients and how we tell their stories via social media. From crafting unique and informative messages with a limited number of characters to utilizing the power of visual content, I love the challenge of generating social media engagement. I also love tapping into the latest trend or social media feature to bring this engagement to the next level.

The new Instagram Stories feature is a great example, providing a new outlet to share stories in real-time. The platform keeps followers in the moment and further integrated into our lives, closing the gap between picture-perfect photos and reality. Even better, large brands can capitalize on their existing followership, making the platform an exciting opportunity for PR professionals to wow existing fans with innovation and generate buzz around brands.

The Largemouth team has been an incredible resource, providing powerful tools to learn a variety of new skills and further develop my strengths. I look forward to what the rest of the internship has in store, and maybe you’ll see a few of my experiences on Instagram Stories!
