3 Types of Social Media Visuals and Why Your Brand Needs Them

During this election cycle, you’ve probably seen more memes than op-eds. The reason is simple – today’s social media users crave visual content. In fact, posts with visuals earn 94 percent more shares than any other type of content.

Savvy brands understand this, and they attach eye-catching imagery to most, if not all, of their social media posts. But not all visuals are created equal, and it’s important to use a variety of imagery to capture – and hold – the attention of your target audiences.

Post Planner recently shared a great list of visual categories and we’ve pulled together a few best practices to make each work for your brand. Here’s how to use each type of visual content in an effort to engage with your audiences:

1. Content that educates: These visuals give followers insight into your business offerings without getting overly technical. Because space for text is limited, it’s important to hone in on the most relevant message for potential customers.

2. Content that entertains: Even brands with a serious or traditional brand ‘voice’ take advantage of opportunities to humanize their organization. Tapping into an industry inside joke with a meme or sharing a heartwarming photo of an employee can go a long way towards making your brand multi-dimensional.

3. Utility Content: Even when you’re posting informative content, don’t miss out on opportunities to incorporate shareable visuals.

While every company should utilize visual content that aligns with their brand, it’s equally important to have a clear visual strategy and plenty of variety. To help develop a visual content strategy for your brand’s social media accounts, drop us a note today!
